The lineup
Trim by trim: who each one suits
2.0 S and 2.0 ES: the practical starting points
The 2.0 S opens the lineup, and Mitsubishi lists it with two-wheel drive, automatic climate control, front rain-sensing wipers and LED low- and high-beam headlights. Rain-sensing wipers earn their keep during a sloppy nor'easter commute, when the mix of rain, slush and road spray changes by the minute.
The 2.0 ES highlights driver-assistance features: Forward Collision Mitigation with Pedestrian Detection, Lane Departure Warning, Automatic High Beam and an auto-dimming rearview mirror. If much of your driving is on dark, busy highways after work, those are the features worth checking for.
2.0 LE and 2.0 SE: more style, more convenience
The 2.0 LE is the sporty-looking choice. Its highlights are 18-inch black painted alloy wheels, black seating surfaces with red stitching and LED fog lights.
The 2.0 SE leans toward comfort and convenience. Its list includes 18-inch two-tone alloy wheels, six speakers, the FAST-Key entry system, push-button start, power-folding side mirrors and combination soft-touch seating surfaces. Mitsubishi also lists Blind Spot Warning with Lane Change Assist and Rear Cross Traffic Alert for the SE, which helps when backing out of a tight spot at a busy Taunton shopping plaza.
RALLIART and TRAIL EDITION: two different personalities
RALLIART is about attitude. It comes with All-Wheel Control, 18-inch black painted alloy wheels, the FAST-Key entry system and a RALLIART spoiler.
TRAIL EDITION goes the rugged route. It also has All-Wheel Control, plus front and rear Trail Package protectors, a side protector, fender effects, a hood protector, black mud flaps and an Outlander Sport hood decal. Inside, it gets a red-stitched steering wheel, shift knob and parking brake lever, along with black seating surfaces with red stitching. For dirt roads to a campground or a snowy driveway in Middleborough, it looks the part and has the all-wheel system to match.
2.4 SEL: the top of the lineup
The 2.4 SEL is the only trim Mitsubishi lists with the 2.4L MIVEC DOHC four-cylinder. It also comes with All-Wheel Control, leather-appointed seating surfaces and a 4-way power-adjustable driver's seat. It is the natural pick for shoppers who want leather seating and all-wheel drive together.
Which trims have All-Wheel Control?
All-Wheel Control, or AWC, is Mitsubishi's integrated vehicle dynamics control system, which manages driving forces. RALLIART, TRAIL EDITION and 2.4 SEL come with it.
The picture is less clear for the 2.0 ES, LE and SE: Mitsubishi has not said which of them can be ordered with All-Wheel Control, so ask us which drivetrain a specific vehicle has. Around Raynham, with snow, sleet and salted roads every winter, that question deserves a firm answer before you buy.
Capability
Fuel economy and towing
The 2027 EPA estimates break down by trim and drivetrain:
- S, ES, LE and SE 2WD: 24 mpg city, 30 highway and 27 combined.
- RALLIART, ES, LE and SE 4WD: 23 city, 29 highway and 26 combined.
- SEL 4WD: 23 city, 28 highway and 25 combined.
Mitsubishi gives the Outlander Sport a maximum tow rating of 1,500 pounds when equipped with a factory-installed towing hitch. Coverage includes a 10-year/100,000-mile powertrain limited warranty, 5-year/unlimited-mile roadside assistance and 2-year/30,000-mile limited maintenance. The powertrain coverage applies only to the original owner, and later owners receive the balance of the 5-year/60,000-mile New Vehicle Limited Warranty.
Decision guide
Which Outlander Sport trim should you choose?
A 2.0 front-drive trim for the best mileage
The 2WD versions of the S, ES, LE and SE carry the highest EPA estimates in the lineup, at 27 mpg combined. If your driving is mostly commuting on plowed roads, start by comparing the ES driver aids with the SE's convenience list.
RALLIART or TRAIL EDITION for all-weather character
Both include All-Wheel Control, one with a sporty spoiler and the other with protective trim. Sit in each and pick the look you want to live with through a New England winter.
The 2.4 SEL for leather and the bigger engine
If leather-appointed seating and the 2.4L four-cylinder are on your list, the SEL is the only trim that pairs them. Ask our team about test-driving one.
